Reading the state survey’s record for this well, the parcel beneath it, and what is permitted around it. This usually takes a few seconds the first time a well is opened.

Edward B Kirk, API 47-103-02555, Wetzel County | WV Mineral Owners
API 47-103-02555, Green district, Wetzel County. What the state survey records for this well, what is happening around it, and what none of that says about who owns the minerals beneath it.
Opens the map centered on the recorded surface location, with the tax district the counts below use outlined and the parcels around it. For a horizontal well the lateral runs underground away from that point, and the survey does not draw that path.
Production reported to the state, by year
In 2025, the operator reported 1.7 MMcf of gas from this well (HAUGHT ENERGY CORPORATION). Since 2010 the state has 109 MMcf of gas and 170 barrels of oil on record for it over 15 reporting years.
Gas reported each year, 2010 to 2025. A grey bar is a partial year. The shape is the well’s own decline, which is what a buyer prices and what an owner’s statements follow.

What the gas from this well was worth, estimated by quarter
In Q2 2025 this well reported 577 Mcf. At the average price the five largest Appalachian operators reported for the quarter, $3.03 per Mcf before hedges, that quarter’s gas sold for roughly $1,700 gross, about $582 a month. Every figure in this section is for one quarter, three months of production, unless it says otherwise. An estimate from open records, not a figure from anyone’s books.

Volumes as the operator reported them to WVDEP; prices as the operators reported them to the SEC, on the prices page. Rounded to two figures because the inputs do not support more. Gas only. Gross sales before any costs: not profit, and not what any one owner received.
Stays on this page; nothing is sent.
Why it is an estimateThe volume is operator-reported and not audited by the state. The price is a company-wide quarterly average from a public filing, not this well’s contract; a well’s own price differs with its heat content, the hub it sells into, and the month-by-month timing of sales. Where the operator does not file, the five-operator average stands in.
Gross is not what anyone keepsGathering, compression, processing, and transport come off first, often fifty cents to a dollar per Mcf. West Virginia severance tax takes five percent. Then royalties go to everyone in the unit. What the operator nets and what any one owner receives are both well below this figure.

The surface parcel is the county assessor’s record of who owns the land at the marker. Minerals are often severed from the surface and held by someone else; the parcel is a place to start in the deed index, not an answer.

One API number can carry several records: the original location, a deviated location, a recompletion, a plugging. The page summary above uses the most recent.
Around this well
In Green district of Wetzel County the survey lists 58 permits not yet completed and 24 wells completed since 2025. The largest permit holder in the district is Antero Resources Corporation with 32.
Is a cousin on this lease too? Inherited interests are usually shared among relatives. Send them the page; nothing about you travels with it.
What this page does and does not tell you
It does not say who owns the minerals. Only recorded deeds, wills, and estate files do. The mineral owner named on a permit is whoever the operator listed when it filed, often decades ago.
A completed well is not necessarily producing. Status and year come from state records; the production and sales figures above come from separate, operator-reported filings and are estimates where the page says so.
Nearby is not yours. A well in the same district is not necessarily producing from your tract. Only a lease, a unit, or a division order ties a well to an interest.
The location is approximate. A surface point, not a surveyed boundary and not the subsurface path of a lateral.
Activity is not value. Permits nearby change the odds of future development; they do not by themselves establish what an interest is worth.
Questions owners ask
This well is on my royalty statement. Does the page match it?
Compare the API number and the operator. The survey records the operator at completion and the current producing operator when they differ; your statement shows whoever pays you now. If the lease name differs, that is common: operators rename units. If the API number is not here at all, say so in a case and a researcher checks the regulator's records.
My family name is on the permit. Do we own this?
Not necessarily. The mineral owner field is what the operator listed when it filed, and the interest may have been sold, divided, or passed through an estate since. It is exactly the kind of lead a free screening follows into the county records.
Can I get an alert when something changes here?
Yes. Enter your email in the watch box on this page. Every Monday you get one email with the well's operator and status, the newest production the state has for it with the change from the month before, any permit activity on it, and the county report. Same-day alerts for a status or operator change are planned. Watching a well is never treated as interest in selling.

Operator-reported volumes filed with WVDEP, not audited by the state. Gas in thousand cubic feet; oil, water, and natural gas liquids in barrels. Monthly detail since 2016; 5 earlier years are in the chart as annual totals. Estimated gross gas sales is a calendar-year figure: each quarter’s gas at the price the operator filed with the SEC for that quarter (or the five-operator average), added up. Gas only, before gathering, transport, severance tax, and royalties: sales, not profit, and not what any one owner received. Prices are on file from Q1 2025, so earlier years show a dash; the table further down breaks the same figure out by quarter.
What a royalty isYour decimal share of these volumes, times the price the operator received, minus the deductions the lease allows. The volumes are public; the price and the deductions are on your statement.
Read the months, not just the yearA shale well declines steeply in its first years. Falling months on a young well are the curve, not a problem; falling months on an old well may be a shut-in or a sale of the well.
A unit shares the volumeA horizontal well drains a unit of several tracts. Each owner is paid on their acres in the unit, so this well’s total is shared among everyone in it.
What this does not showWho owns the minerals, what the operator was paid for the gas, or whether anyone was paid at all. If your statements show less than your share of these volumes, ask the operator in writing.
Gas onlyOil, condensate, and natural gas liquids sell on their own indexes and are not in this number. On a liquids-rich well they can be a large share of the value.
Not a valuationA quarter’s sales say what the well produced then, not what the minerals under it are worth. A buyer prices the decline ahead, the forward curve, the basis, and the lease terms. Research from a buyer, including this page, is not an independent appraisal.
The survey updates its database from state permit and completion records on its own schedule and does not guarantee completeness. This site re-reads it daily; the current year is always partial.
