API 47-097-02946, Banks district, Upshur County. What the state survey records for this well, what is happening around it, and what none of that says about who owns the minerals beneath it.
Opens the map centered on the recorded surface location, with the tax district the counts below use outlined and the parcels around it. For a horizontal well the lateral runs underground away from that point, and the survey does not draw that path.
In 2025, the operator reported 561 Mcf of gas from this well (ROSS AND WHARTON GAS COMPANY, INC.). Since 1999 the state has 81 MMcf of gas on record for it over 25 reporting years.
In Q2 2025 this well reported 110 Mcf. At the average price the five largest Appalachian operators reported for the quarter, $3.03 per Mcf before hedges, that quarter’s gas sold for roughly $333 gross, about $111 a month. Every figure in this section is for one quarter, three months of production, unless it says otherwise. An estimate from open records, not a figure from anyone’s books.

The surface parcel is the county assessor’s record of who owns the land at the marker. Minerals are often severed from the surface and held by someone else; the parcel is a place to start in the deed index, not an answer.
One API number can carry several records: the original location, a deviated location, a recompletion, a plugging. The page summary above uses the most recent.
In Banks district of Upshur County the survey lists 10 permits not yet completed and 0 wells completed since 2025. The largest permit holder in the district is Chesapeake Appalachia, LLC with 3.

Is a cousin on this lease too? Inherited interests are usually shared among relatives. Send them the page; nothing about you travels with it.
4 wells completed since 2016 and 4 permits outstanding in this county. The operator page shows every county, the formations it targets, and news that names it.
Compare the API number and the operator. The survey records the operator at completion and the current producing operator when they differ; your statement shows whoever pays you now. If the lease name differs, that is common: operators rename units. If the API number is not here at all, say so in a case and a researcher checks the regulator's records.
Not necessarily. The mineral owner field is what the operator listed when it filed, and the interest may have been sold, divided, or passed through an estate since. It is exactly the kind of lead a free screening follows into the county records.
Yes. Enter your email in the watch box on this page. Every Monday you get one email with the well's operator and status, the newest production the state has for it with the change from the month before, any permit activity on it, and the county report. Same-day alerts for a status or operator change are planned. Watching a well is never treated as interest in selling.
